Uttarkashi Weather And Best Time To Visit Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi or Kashi of the North is a beautiful, quaint hill station found in Uttarakhand, some 1158 meters above sea-level. The glorious Bhagirathi River flows through this hill-station creating for a beautiful natural background with the neighbouring Himalayas towering over. Essentially March to November is the best time to visit Uttarkashi. This is the period when a number of festivals occur in the area, drawing tourists and pilgrims from far and wide, especially during the monsoon. Summer temperatures can go as high as 30°C and winters down to sub-zero levels. The town is filled with scattered temples, giving visitors a serene and peaceful feeling. To learn more about the weather of Uttarkashi, here's a seasonal guide.
Summer (March - June)
The summer season in Uttarkashi starts off around March and concludes towards the end of June, with average temperatures of 15 to 30°C. The evenings are relatively cooler and the days are longer. This is the best time to visit due to the clear skies and sunny weather, which are ideal for outdoor activities like treks, camping as well as temple visits. The deodar forests begin to bloom during this period and the entire hill-station comes alive, making it the ideal weekend getaway.
Monsoon (July - September)
The monsoon season transforms Uttarkashi into a magical land, with rainstorms turning the landscape rich and vibrant. The natural vegetation thrives here and offers stunning views of the valley and neighbouring Himalayan Mountain Ranges. This is also a festive-season in the town and sees pilgrims and devotees travelling here from across the country. However, local sightseeing and outdoor activities are hit badly due to the heavy rainfall that can often result in landslides and poor visibility. Hence, caution is advised before travelling here during this season.
Winter (October - March)
Wintertime could see visitors being exposed to a harsh climate due to temperatures dropping down to potentially sub-zero levels. However, the snowfall gives Uttarkashi a charm of its own and the town is frequented during this season. Places like Auli and Dayara Bugyal are famed for being winter skiing hotspots and tourists flock here to enjoy the other outdoor sports on offer. Weather permitting, winter treks are also a unique experience here and are not be missed. Visitors are recommended to layer up and be well clad at all times during this season.
