By Air:

An efficient way to reach Kanatal is by flying to Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun. It is approximately 92 km away from Kanatal via car or bus options available at the airport itself. 

By Road:

This is the best and most rewarding way to reach Kanatal. There is a well-connected roadway network that connects Kanatal to most of the important cities in and around the area. 

By Rail:

The two closest stations to Kanatal can be found in Rishikesh (75 km) and Dehradun (85 km). Similar to the airports, there are multiple private and public vehicles to take visitors to Kanatal from the station. 

Summer (April - June):

The warm weather and clear skies make this the most enjoyable time to visit Kanatal. Outdoor activities like trekking, camping and temple visits can all be enjoyed in this weather.

Monsoon (July - September):

For this brief period, travel to Kanatal is not recommended. Extreme weather conditions like cloud burst and flooding, along with the danger of landslides make this a dangerous place to travel in monsoon. 

Winter (October - March):

Another enjoyable season to visit Kanatal, the winter time sees the town transformed into a magical winter getaway. Although the weather tends to drop to sub-zero levels, the surrounding landscape presents fascinating opportunities for winter treks and camping.

Kodia Jungle Trek:

This 5 km trek into the thick pine and deciduous Kodia Jungle is an exciting activity and one the best things to do. Exploring the rich biodiversity of the surrounding landscape is not to be missed. 

Camping:

A dream destination for campers and adventurers, this activity is best enjoyed in the summer and winter months. The diverse flora and fauna on offer in Kanatal can be observed as well.

Visit Surkanda Devi Temple:

This temple is the most reverred and religiously significant temple in the village of Kanatal. It is nearly 10,000 feet high and offers stunning views of the valley and surrounding Himalayas. 

Valley Crossing:

This adventure sport is possible in only a few select destinations and Kanatal happens to be one of those places. A fun filled activity, it involves visitors pulling themselves through the valley, while attached to a wire.

Being a remote destination, there are hardly any independant restaurants or food markets that can be frequented here. Visitors' best option would be to enjoy the food being prepared at the homestay or local hotel they are staying at. The food on offer will vary from Asian to local Indian cuisine. 

There is little or no shopping in Kanatal, with no proper markets. Visitors keen on picking up some souvenirs or handicrafts will have to travel next door to Chamba to enjoy the same. Kanatal is mostly a remote, untouched destination that is best visited for outdoor adventure activities.
