How To Reach Orchha
Orchha, a beautiful town in Madhya Pradesh State of India, is best described by its name which means ‘hidden’. Situated on the banks of the Betwa River, Orchha was founded by the Bundela Rajput Rudra Pratap Singh, around 1501. This sleepy heritage town is situated 15 km from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. Among its attractions include a large-sized temple compound and a massive fort. Orchha is a very attractive town in its own way. Seemingly frozen in time, Orchha has some of the prettiest palaces and temples. In order to get to Orchha one can adopt different means.
Orchha is not connected by air. However, Gwalior has an airport which is 115 km from Jhansi. One could therefore fly to Gwalior and then drive to Orchha, a distance of around 123 km via NH44. Usually, people prefer trains and road travel over air to reach Orchha.
Orchha does not have a railway station. On the other hand, it is only 15 km from Jhansi and Jhansi is connected by rail to all parts of the country. The best way to reach Orchha, therefore, is by train to Jhansi and then by road to Orchha. There are 86 trains from New Delhi and Nizamuddin to Jhansi. Among these trains there are five Rajdhani trains, two Shatabdi trains and 4 Air-conditioned Superfast trains. Similarly, there are 27 trains from Mumbai to Jhansi. Of these there is 1 Rajdhani, along with 4 AC Superfast trains and 10 Superfast trains. If you are travelling out of Kolkata to Orchha via Jhansi, there are 3 trains of which two are Superfast trains. For those travelling from Chennai to Jhansi, it is a distance of 1772 km and there are 14 trains. Of these, 1 is Rajdhani and 8 are other Superfast trains.
Orchha is well connected by road with Delhi, UP and Rajasthan. If you are travelling by road to Jhansi from Delhi, 498 km away, there are excellent roads such as NH 44 and Taj Express Highway. Mumbai, on the other hand, is 1085 km away from Jhansi. The Agra National Highway connects these two cities very well.
Buses are not locally available in Orchha. The preferred mode of conveyance in Orchha is either by auto rickshaws or by taxis. These are adequate for the traveller who would like to see some of the most beautiful temples and palaces in the country, see the bird sanctuary or enjoy river rafting.
