How To Reach Sanchi
Sanchi is famous for its 3rd Century BC Stupa which is now a UNESCO Heritage Site. This is one place that must not be skipped from one’s itinerary. The stupa was built during the Mauryan era with Emperor Ashok’s edict. It reflects the masterful art of the Buddhist era which lasted till well into the 12th century AD. This is one of the best conserved stupas. The best way to reach Sanchi is by taking a flight to Bhopal and then a taxi to Sanchi. However, there are other ways too and these are discussed.
Sanchi enjoys an excellent road network that links the city to Bhopal which is just 46km away and Vidisha that is only 10km away while Indore is about 232 km away. Those who have driven to Sanchi from Bhopal have said that the drive was great.
Sanchi does not have a railhead. It is convenient to catch a train to Bhopal and then a taxi from there to Sanchi. Bhopal has an excellent rail network with the rest of the country so reaching Bhopal will not be a problem if you are planning to travel by train. There are 29 trains from Mumbai to Bhopal and 93 trains between New Delhi and Bhopal. The 46km drive to Sanchi from Bhopal will be a breeze.
Your best option is to catch a flight from any of the principal cities in India to Bhopal. Since there are several domestic airlines operating out to Bhopal the air travel will not be a problem from Mumbai or Delhi or several other cities.
For getting around in Sanchi one option is to hire a cab. Cabs can be hired in Sanchi. One can hire a cab for local trips as well as for sightseeing. Savaari Car Rentals is one such cab company but there may be others. Savaari offers sedans, hatchbacks and MUV depending upon your requirement.
