How To Reach Kratie
Kratie is a beautiful city that adorns the north-eastern hemisphere of the country of Cambodia. This extremely easy-going riverside city boasts of some of the prettiest riverfront sunsets in the whole of Cambodia. Tourists can find solace at Kratie's countryside by taking a detour on their trip to Phnom Penh. The most convenient way to get to Kratie is to board a flight to the nearby Kratie Airport. This airport lies within touching distance of the city center. Other domestic travel options include hiring cabs or motodops to get inside town. Let us take a look at the different travel options available to reach Kratie.
Kratie Airport lies closest to Kratie, situated around 3.5 km away from the heart of the town. Initially constructed in 1977 as a military airfield, this airport was first used for civilian travel in 2006. Other airports that provide connectivity to Kratie include Svay Rieng Airport, Kompong Thong Airport, and Phnom Penh International Airport. Tourists can hire share taxis to enjoy lavish travel to their destination of choice once at the airport. Other modes of transport available include rented bikes and motodops that are readily available in town.
Kratie enjoys excellent connectivity to other metropolitans of Cambodia through the well-built National Highway 6 and National Highway 7. The splendid National Highway 7 extends up to the Lao border nestled in the north of Cambodia. Tourists can enjoy the scenic countryside while using these highways to get to places such as Phnom Penh, Snoul, Kampong Cham, Sen Monorom, and Stung Treng. Major bus operators such as Mekong Express, Giant Ibis, and Sorya Bus also ply their buses in and out of Kratie. These buses offer inexpensive travel options and ply throughout the day every 15 minutes.
The most lavish way to reach Kratie is to get on board one of the bullet boats that glide through the Mekong River. These bullet boats run between Kampong Cham and Kratie, departing in the wee hours of dawn at 7 AM. These boats usually take around 3 hours to reach Kratie and cost passengers about 7 USD. Besides this boat service, the Kratie-Stung Treng bullet boat also operates along this route. However, this boat service only runs during the wet season, as the water levels get to a height suitable for boats to ply through. The venture from Stung Treng to Kratie lasts for about 7 hours and costs about 8 USD.
One of the most convenient ways to explore the streets of Kratie includes hopping onto a motodop, one of the local transport options. To visit cities located around Kratie, tourists can rent a motodop for a meager 5 to 7 USD. Riding a bicycle around town is also apt to ply through the city at your own pace. Local Khmer families provide bicycles on hire for around 1 USD per day. On the other hand, several guesthouses allow tourists to rent 110 cc motorbikes at approximately 8 USD per day. The relatively smaller size of the city of Kratie means that visitors can even meet and greet with locals while exploring on foot.
