Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary
The favourite gaming reserve of the rulers of Chamba, the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is located between Khajjiar and Dalhousie. Boasting of exotic flora and fauna, the sanctuary houses trees like Green Oak, Rhododendron, Blue Pine etc and animals like langur, jackal, barking goral etc. The place is ideal for nature walks and hiking. It is one of the must-visit places from Khajjiar.
The Khajjiar Lake, set in the midst of lush green meadows surrounded by deodar forests, looks straight out of a painting. The freshness of the air helps to rejuvenate mind as well as body. It is an extremely popular destination among locals and tourists alike and you can indulge in paragliding, horse riding, zorbing etc. A stroll along the banks of the lake can be an equally refreshing experience. Khajji Nag Temple
The Khajji Nag Temple built in the 12th Century is one of the oldest temples of Himachal Pradesh. The architectural patterns are a combination of Hindu and Muslim styles. It houses idols of Lord Shiva, Hidimba and images of Kauravas and Pandavas. Located at a stone’s throw distance from the lake, the temple is a major tourist destination.
Dainkund Peak in Rakhed is located 16 km from Khajjiar. The highest peak in Dalhousie, Dainkund is a beautiful sightseeing spot to visit from Khajjiar. On clear days, the surrounding snow-capped peaks are visible from here. During winter, Daikund Peak becomes completely white due to snowfall while during summer the tourists are greeted by lush green meadows.
Panchpula is in Chtrayara located 22 km from Khajjiar and only 3 km from Dalhousie. Panchpula has dense forests of pine and deodar trees crisscrossed with meandering streams and small waterfalls. It is ideal for a day’s trip from Khajjiar.
Golden Devi Temple
Located on the edges of the Khajjiar Lake is the Golden Devi Temple. The temple is an architectural beauty, thronged by people of all religions. It has a lot of legends and myths woven into its existence and is also a fine display of arts. Named after its Golden Dome, the temple and the surroundings have become quite popular among tourists. It also has a golf course near it.
