Naples Weather And Best Time To Visit Naples
Naples, the regional capital of the Campania region is one of the most densely populated cities in Italy as well as Europe. The weather in Naples is a mix of humid subtropical and Mediterranean; it has moderately cold winters with a good amount of rainfall and humid summers that are very hot. The spring season is beautiful and is the best time to visit Naples, while the end of autumn starts to become chilly due to winter coming in. Due to the city being located near the sea, the water influences its climate up to a great extent; winters are less extreme and precipitation is much more than other cities in Italy. Let’s have a look at some of the seasons in Naples and the good times to visit.
The season of spring in Naples lasts from March to May, bringing in a very pleasant climate for all living in the region. Once spring starts to set in, the temperature continuously rises and the average temperature in March and April ranges from 16 °C (61 °F) in the day time to 7 °C (44 °F) in the night. Beautiful weather becomes more frequent and rainfall starts to subside, but at the same time it is still quite chilly from the preceding months of winter. It is during the month of May that the region starts to warm up a little and is considered to be the best time to visit Naples. The temperatures rise to an average of 23 °C to 12 °C (73 °F -56 °F) and rainfall is absolutely minimized.
Since the climate in Naples is subtropical, the summers in the region are pretty hot and humid. Due to the location of the city being right next to the sea, the heat is controlled a bit and there are winds blowing all the time, making the heat quite bearable. But, in the crowded city, especially in traffic and densely populated areas, the heat is felt a lot more than near the shore. The south winds from Africa known as scirocco make the region hot, making the temperature rise to 36 °C (97 °F) to 38 °C (100 °F). Although precipitation reduces during this time, thunderstorms are common, accompanied by light drizzles. This is a good time to visit the Neapolitan Riviera and relax in the warm sands and enjoy the sea breeze.
Autumns in Naples are initially warm due to the hot summer, but the climate starts to cool down gradually, getting ready for the winter. This weather brings in a lot of rainfall as well and there are chances of bad weather due to frequent thunderstorms. The temperature during this time of the year averages from a high of 27 °C (81 °F) to a low of 17 °C (62 °F) during the nights. As the season progresses, the level of precipitation starts to grow, with November being one of the rainiest months in the year. During autumn, Naples also sees a decrease in sunlight and November only sees four hours of sunshine.
Winter (December- February)
The months of winter from December to February are quite moderate due to the sea beside the city. Although winters are mild in this region, they do see some bad days with a lot of rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by chilly winds. Winds that come from the north make it rain and in the mountains it falls as snow and hence it is possible to see snowfall in Naples as well, especially in the mountainous areas. Temperatures in winter range from 13 °C (55 °F) during afternoons to 6 °C (43 °F) in the night, sometimes dropping down to sub zero levels. Not a lot of people visit during this time, so if you are fond of the cold and want to get away from the crowd, winter may be the best time for you to visit.
