Lava and Loleygaon are the twin hill stations of the North Bengal region. Located near Darjeeling, both the hill stations have become popular tourist destinations in the region. Summer (March to June)
Summer in Lava sets in March and continues till June. Temperature ranges between a comfortable 12°C and 15°C and reaches a maximum of 25°C. Unlike the rest of the state, particularly the plains which receive a scorching and sizzling hot summer, Lava is pleasant and cool. The weather is beautiful with sprawling lush meadows, radiant blooming flowers, and clear skies. It is a good time to explore Lava and for nature lovers to plan a quick escapade. The absence of heat and humidity attracts tourists in large numbers from different parts of the state. It is a good time to visit the Lava Monastery, Canopy walk, Changey Falls La, etc.
Monsoon (July to August)
Monsoon in Lava lasts from July till the end of August. Lava and Loleygaon receive heavy showers during the monsoon and not a good time to plan a trip to the hill stations. The roads turn slippery; roads get blocked and inhospitable due to landslides and mudslides. There are frequent road accidents, which make traveling difficult and risky. There is news of fatal accidents that haunt the tourists. It is recommended to avoid Lava and Loleygaon during these months as sightseeing is difficult and could prove dangerous as well. Hotels do however give lots of discounts as it is the offseason but it is preferable to stay away.
Winter (September to February)
The best time to enjoy Lava and soak in the beauty of this stunner of a place is undoubtedly in winter. The mercury dips steadily and gets really cold as winter approaches. The chill and the cold is truly enjoyable and makes sightseeing a lot of fun as the weather stays good during the entire time. However, if you are planning a trip during winter make sure to carry heavy woolens and go prepared to experience snowfall as well. It is a fascinating experience indeed.
