By Air

You can reach Milan conveniently from any part of the world. Currently there are three airports serving the city; the first is Malpensa Airport, situated at about an hour from Milan and is the largest airport in northern Italy. Prime airlines in Europe like British Airways, KLM, EasyJet and Lufthansa operate from the Malpensa Airport and see almost 20 million passengers commuting to Milan via this Airport.

 

Once you land at Malpensa Airport, you can directly take a cab from the airport to your destination or you can ride the Malpensa Express, which will take you to the Milan Central Station. Other airports that can take you to Milan are Linate that is located in the centre of Milan and the other Orio al Serio is located at Bergamo which is 45 km from the city of Milan.

There are numerous autostradas that will take you to Milan, giving you the option of driving from anywhere in Europe. You can take Autostrada A1, A4, A7 or A8, depending on which direction you are coming from. Driving up to Milan is ideal if you want to explore Milan as well as regions around the country, or else you can always use the extensive public transport facility.

The Milan Central Station serves as the prime railway station in the city and has frequent trains passing by, going to different parts of Italy as well as Europe. This station is located at the heart of the city, hence making it easy for tourists to commute from there onwards to their desired location in the city. The Porta Garibaldi Station is also another one in Milan, but trains from this railway station most often ply back and forth from Italian cities only. If you are already in a different part of Italy, you can travel to the Milan Lambrate Station that has regional trains operating within the country.

Spread over the entire city, public transport in Milan is extensive, making it easy for tourists to commute and get to different parts of the city. The metro network system integrated by Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (ATM) consists of four metro lines that run throughout the city and are identified by different number and colours. The metro stops by almost 106 stations, which makes it convenient to travel to any part of Milan. You can also get around using cabs; but they are more expensive and besides, using the metro saves travel time and saves you more money for shopping!
