How To Reach Cappadocia (Kapadokya)
Cappadocia is located in the central Anatolia region of Turkey, having the black sea as its northern boundary and the Taurus Mountains in the south. Known for its unique landscapes, underground cities and caves, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Turkey. The best way to reach Cappadocia is via Flight to Nevşehir which is the main province of Cappadocia. The Ihlara Canyon of Cappadocia receives more than 1.2 million visitors each year.
The region of Cappadocia has 2 airports - Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR) and Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV). There are direct flights to Kayseri airport from Istanbul and Izmir. But this city is located about 1 hour away from the centre of Cappadocia. Nevşehir airport is located closer to the centre and has daily direct flights to Istanbul. The best way to travel from India is to fly to Istanbul directly from Mumbai or Delhi and then catch a connecting flight to Cappadocia.
The closest train station is Kayseri, which is located about 1 hour away from central Cappadocia. Kayseri is well connected to Ankara station and to travel from any other part of Turkey, it is best routed via Ankara station. From Istanbul, a train ride up to Kayseri would take you roughly 12 hours with a change at Ankara, combining the High Speed YHT train and the Doğu Express.
Cappadocia region is centrally located and can easily be accessed by all major cities of Turkey. There are direct buses to Nevşehir, the main province of Cappadocia, or you can hire a private vehicle. From Istanbul, a direct road trip may take about 8 hours, while the bus takes 12 hours. From Konya or Ankara, a bus trip would take you between 4 to 5 hours.
Cappadocia is hugely popular among tourists. However, with the region being less populated and the sightseeing areas being scattered across the region, there is a shortage of public transport within the region. There are bus services from Nevşehir that travel to other towns every now and then. The best way to move around the region is to hire a private vehicle (car or scooter, depending on the no. of people travelling) or join a group tour.
You will also get Hot Air Balloon rides around many of the valleys and landscapes across Cappadocia.
