How To Reach Bengaluru (Bangalore)
From a garden city, Bengaluru has emerged as a corporate hub that is drawing the attention of the world’s business and tourist market. As one of the country’s most urbanized metro cities, Bengaluru, the capital city of the large state of Karnataka, has a well developed and efficient public and private transport system that is a great asset to its tourism industry. Bengaluru is known for its traffic snarls at peak hours, but getting around the city on hi-tech buses and the metro is easy!
The best way to reach Bengaluru might be by train, as a number of inter-city trains run to and from Bengaluru.
Bengaluru has domestic flights that are well connected to most major Indian cities. The airport also caters to many international flights to places like London, Hongkong, UAE, Bangkok and Singapore that arrive and depart at the Kempegowda International Airport, near Devanahalli. The Airport is about 40 km from the city and it takes about 45 minutes to reach the city from the airport.
Bengaluru’s City Railway Station receives trains from most cities across the country including Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. If you are travelling from Chennai, you can travel on the Shatabdhi or the SBC Double Deck. Uday Express, a newly launched Double Decker runs between Coimbatore and Bengaluru. There are daily and weekly trains that run from most cities to Bengaluru, so you’d have a good choice of trains to book tickets, depending on your preferences.
There are private and government buses from many central cities like Coimbatore, Goa, Pune, Mumbai and Mangalore that serve Bengaluru. You have a choice of the usual buses, air conditioned Volvo as well as Sleeper buses. There are good interconnecting roads to Bengaluru with classy restaurants and hotels in between for a break, so you could also opt for driving your own vehicle. The other option would be to hire a taxi if you are travelling from a neighbouring state.
Travel around Bengaluru on the BMTC Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation buses is quite comfortable; and the city has a good fleet of these. The BMTCs’ mobile app will help you find the right bus station and routes for your destination. Otherwise, one of the most common modes of transport to get around within the city is the auto rickshaw, Namma Metro or hired cabs.
