The Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport is situated at Borjar, 20 km from the city. National and private carriers connect Assam with major Indian cities like Kolkata, Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and others. Railway tracks in Assam were constructed way back during the British rule for transportation of tea and coal for its tea plantations. Today, the state boasts of 259 railway stations that connects cities and towns within the state and with other leading cities of the country like Cochin, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. The key railway hubs are Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Jorhat, Tezpur, Silchar, Golaghat and Nagaon. National Highways 31 and 37 connect Assam with the rest of India. The Inter State Bus Terminus or ISBT is located at the outskirts. They run regular buses connecting the state with other north-eastern regions and major tourist attractions of neighbouring states.

Assam State Transport Corporation and other private transport organizations provide regular bus services that allow tourists to travel hassle-free within the state. There are different types of services available, from Volvo to super deluxe to deluxe buses. Sleeper buses are also available.
