Hotels, Car Rental, Sightseeing Tour,
We were a group of elderly 4. Took a 7 day 6 nights stay. Meghalaya is Heaven on earth post monsoon. We went in October. The driver came to airport. We had three drivers due to an unfortunate health scare of the first driver. The third driver was the best of the lot - Rap. He was knowledgeable and spoke fluent English. The others were not so fluent though the first managed to speak in Hindi. Rap also gave us a guided tour of the place we visited. One word of caution. Inform the agency the moment the driver says there is a change in drivers. The agency is quick to react proactively. We had a grand view of Umiam lake with the tall pine trees surrounding the huge lake. The boat ride is a personal choice. There were two. One a speedboat for 5 minutes and the second a larger boat for 10 persons. The gorgeous waterfalls - there are so many like the three step Elephant falls or the void covered 7sisters took the pride of place where water falls are concerned. Post monsoon, we found innumerable water falls as we wound round the curving mountain road. Nohkalikai water falls is reputed to be one of the highest waterfall with a straight drop. There are caves for the adventurous. We took the Mawsmai caves. It is a little claustrophobic and challenges you a bit physically, if you are not a caver. But amazing and you exit with a sense of achievement. One must not miss the sacred forest. It is a spiritual and humbling experience to witness the progressive environmental attitude in the Khasi animation people. The matrimonial lineage has ethics many can emulate. The silence, the fragrance of the pines and other trees makes the city bred concrete jungle folks like me a transcendental experience. There is a model Khasi village opposite where it is worth a visit to see the huts of various tribes. The cleanest village Maylynnong was another lesson in community driven success. One must never leave Meghalaya without visiting the root bridge. We went to Duwan Singh Syiem single root bridge. It was an experience of a lifetime to see how the rubber trees over two to three generations of 50/60 years can give a bridge to the people to walk across a water body. The double root bridge at Nongriat was a 8 hour journey round trip with 3500 steps up and down. We chose to give it a skip. For the history buffs, the Don Bosco museum in Shillong gives a glimpse into the various tribes of the north east India. We missed the Laitlum canyon view as it was raining and cloud cover was obscuring the view. There is a leisurely self paddle boats in ward lake in the city of Shillong. Another boating cruise was over the Umngot river. Their river traverses the Khasi and Jaintia hills. The boat takes one to the Bangladesh border with both the Indian tricolor and the BD flags nest to each other. For those coming via Guwahati, there is a Brahmaputra river cruise for an hour with food, drinks and live music. We had tasted the Meghalaya cuisine. It has mild to no spice and is easy on the tummy. Particular mention must be made of a few place where we had great meals like the hotel we stayed ( Golf Retreat overlooking the Golf course. The second was the You and I Cafe. A pleasant stay and three cheers to the staff of the Ka Bri War resort. It was a fantastic hotel with welcoming staff and good food. This trip has ticked off one of my bucket list. If given another chance, I would love to take another trip and cover other hidden gems I missed like the cherry blossom in November/December.
This was the first trip to Meghalaya for us - four senior citizens. We had absolutely no knowledge about how to plan everything. After scouring through the net exploring options over many months, we spoke to Walk With Nine Lives. Bethbhalin Langstieh (Beth). She walked us through the entire tour. And the rest is history. The tour of 7N/8D was highly professionally curated with nothing left to chance. We were put up in high quality hotels, our vehicle was in the best of conditions. Our driver, Rap was par excellence professionally and he was an excellent guide. The bonus was his beautiful singing ability. Any small hiccup was attended to by WWNL within five to ten minutes maximum. If we get lucky to visit Meghalaya again, we will be comfortable to just contact Walk With Nine Lives without any hesitation.
we had a wonderful experience with walk with 9 lives.
A Flawless Journey to the Abode of the Clouds! We recently returned from a spectacular 5-day tour of Meghalaya organized by ‘Walk with Nine Lives’, and the experience was truly unforgettable. From the moment we landed until our departure, the entire trip was executed with precision and a genuine passion for showcasing the best of Northeast India. The itinerary was perfectly paced. In just five days, we managed to cover the misty heights of Cherrapunji (Sohra), trek to the incredible Double Decker Living Root Bridges, witness the waters of the Dawki River & Umiam lake, Arwah cave & Mawsmai cave, several scenic waterfalls and other tourist attractions. Walk with Nine Lives clearly understands the region, balancing popular tourist spots with hidden, tranquil gems. What truly set this company apart was the personal touch. Our local driver was exceptionally knowledgeable, well mannered and ensuring our comfort at every step. The accommodations were authentic and well-chosen, providing a real cozy feel. If you are seeking a meticulously planned, authentic, and hassle-free adventure in Meghalaya, look no further than ‘Walk with Nine Lives’. They don't just arrange tours; they craft memories. ?????
