Our trip to Srilanka was a gift from our children to celebrate our 34th marriage anniversary. The Tour Hub destination made it a memorable one. Mr.Kelum, our tour guide and driver for the whole tour package added to the beautiful moments.
Our tour started on 25-11-2019 from trivandrum in Srilankan airlines at 7.30 am and reached Colombo airport at 11.00 to be greeted by Mr.Kelum. We visited Munneerwara temple and Manavari temple and by evening reached Hotel Amagi, a beach side resort serene and pure.
On 26-11-2019 we started after having a tasty healthy breakfast by 8.00 am to visit Pinnewala el;ephant orphanage where we have to pay LKR 800 (for SAARC country members, other foreigners LKR 3000) per person as entrance fee. It was worth to see so many elephants at one place. we had elephant ride LKR 3000 per person for 20 minutes. We also visited the emporium where products made of wood and paper (made from elephant dung). Then we visited Hingula village tour ($25 person credit card accepted). Its almost like villaages in Kerala where we rode tuk tuk (auto rickshaw) and bullock cart ride. There we had roties made of maida coconut and salt with coconut cutney and black tea made in a traditional chulha (aduppu). Also visited two Buddha temples and a Hindu temple at a hill nearby. Our next visit was Herbal and Spice garden.
Then we reached Kandy to witness the Meyuru Lanka Cultural Dance (LKR 1000 per head) which was very vibrant. Reached Tree of Nature resort by evening. We were given wood apple juice which was very tasty.
on 27-11-2019 we started at 8.15 after having our breakfast and Silk Garden Pvt Ltd where I requested a staff to drape me a sari in the Sri Lankan style. I ;looked amazing in the attire. From there we visited Gunathilake Batik shop where they demonstrated the process of Batik work.We, then visited Sacred Tooth relic Temple (LKR 1000 for SAARC country members, No Credit card accepted). Kelum explained the history in detail. After a very sumptuous buffet lunch at Kandyan Arts Residency Restaurant, Kandy (LKR 1300 per head CC accepted). From Kandy we started for Nuvera Elia. On the way visited Hanuman temple run by Chinmayananda Mission having a very beautiful nature on the mountain side. Moved down to see Ramboda falls and Ramboda Tunnel to reach Damro Tea factory. We halted at Unique Hotel Towers & Cottages at Nuvera Elia. Had dinner before sleeping.
28-11-2019 started at 8.15 to visit Gayathri Peedum and Seethamman temple (Ashok Vatika) which is a beautiful temple by a river side with lot of monkeys too. Next is Divurumwila temple where Seetha matha under went agni pariksha, its believed that her jewels are still kept safely there (LKR 240 per person or INR 120 per person). Our next stop way at Oak Ray Ella Gap hotel for a buffet lunch LKR 850. After lunch we reached Ella Mount Heaven Hotel dropped our luggage, rested for half an hour an moved on to climb the hill to see Ravanas Cave (LKR 150 per person) we reached high altitude but did not enter the cave as it was raining, path was slippery and it was getting dark. Visited Ravana falls where no one was allowed to go near the water falls. Rest at the hotel.
On 29-11-2019 which was our wedding anniversary day, had awesome breakfast and started at 8.15 as planned. We had to return back on a call from hotel to collect our mobile and charger which was forgotten in the room. Kelum was cool and kept on telling us not to worry. We reached Sella Kararagamam by about 10.30 to visit Ganesha temple which was located by a riverside. Then went to Katharagama Murugan temple complex where there are many other Hindu temples, Buddha temple and a Durgha. The Hindu temples were not having any idols but only curtain like hangings on which deities pictures were printed. We had lunch at Hotel Refresh on the way to Unawatuna. On the way we visited Hambontota where its believed that Hanuman's tail was set on fire and hence no vegetation grows there.Travelling through the National forest we saw Peacocks, elephant and deers.
