So I was most fortunate to have the help of Paradise Unexplored. They organised my Inner Line Permit and a car with a guide who took me from Kaziranga to Bomdila, then onto Tawang via the Sela Pass, and finally to Dirang from where we drove to Guwahati. This was a winter holiday and Arunachal Pradesh was really cold, but utterly spectacular at this time of the year. In Bomdila, my guide and driver, took me to some of the best mountain-top views where I met soldiers from the Indian army with whom I chatted and had chai. I also got to see the splendid Bomdila monastery. Sela Pass and the ice lakes en route and mountainsides peppered with yak and fir trees are all thrilling to see. Tawang is truly enchanting. My guide showed me the massive monastery (the second largest in Asia, I believe), the gompa where Tibetan nuns live, the monastery inaugurated by the Dalai Lama (Urgelling), and the beautiful Old Market. I had trouble booking a hotel and he ensured that I was safe and in a warm and comfortable hotel. In Dirang, I got to see the magnificent Dirang monastery against the backdrop of the mountains and also the quaint heritage village of Dirang Dzong. This tour is a MUST for all!
